Color Your Way to Better Horsemanship

I’ve designed this live, in-person class to teach riders and coaches important anatomy concepts that will help you elevate your riding and be a better steward for your horse. If you have a strong working knowledge of how horses move, you can translate that to your training and teaching programs.

When I treat horses, I often educate riders about how horses move and how we can improve the quality of  their gaits. But in truth, the education I provide skips some key information, because it’s just too much to take in. I suspect I become a bit like Charlie Brown’s teacher, where your brain just hears “wah, wah, wah.”

To really learn anatomy and biomechanics, you need to engage more senses -

HEAR it.

FEEL it.

SEE it.

COLOR it.

This helps bring these concepts come to life and you can use them when you work with your horse.

Here’s what we’ll be covering:

  • Key muscles in horses that contribute to carrying a rider

  • Muscle demands of different sports

  • The equine nervous system, and the “big channels” to keep free when working with your horse

  • The biomechanics of walk, trot, and canter

  • The anatomy of collection, and how it starts behind the saddle.

  • How altered back mechanics impact the horse

  • How tight shoulders and hamstrings strain tendons and ligaments

  • How to evaluate your horse’s posture and why that is a window to performance

  • How to body score your horse and use this information to phase your training (preparation phase, maintenance, muscle gain)

Participants will get a workbook and be armed with color pencils, markers, and chalk.Plus we’ll have some real horses to work with. Let’s bring anatomy to life, so you can take these tools to your own barn and use them with your horse.

Workshop Price: $45 for adults, $25 for juniors. Use the coupon code JUNIOR to receive the discount if you are a junior rider. Click on the calendar below to enroll.
