Hi, I’m Shelley. It’s nice to meet you!

If you're looking for support, for yourself and your horse, to help you both move, feel, and perform better, you're in the right spot! I'm passionate about helping you keep your horse sound and feeling good, improve your own body control and alignment, and support you in creating a "horse first" training program.

I have been treating people for 24 years and treating horses for 7 years. I have a very busy practice treating horses and riders, both in-person and virtually. The great thing about a high volume practice is it has helped me figure out what works best for equine and human athletes.

I am also a rider and competitor. I’ve ridden through the preliminary level in eventing, up to 4th level dressage, and spent several years pursuing goals in the show jumping arena. I’ve worked for top level riders, managed barns, run my own horse business, and had enough experience to say I’ve done a lot wrong, learned many lessons, and like to think I’m working smarter nowadays. But of course, it’s horses, so the learning will never be done!

When you work with performance horses, it’s not “if” but “when” they will have some soundness and health issues. We ask horses to do repetitive work, travel long distances, and live in very unnatural environments which leads to problems. These problems can be mitigated and managed, but you need to be on the lookout.

The same is true for riders. Improving body alignment and strength not only helps your horse but lessens your risk of injury and makes  you a better “backpack” for your horse to carry.

When you know better, you do better. I’m constantly trying to learn more and bring that learning to you. Together we can all do the best for our horses, our greatest teachers and friends. I hope we can go on that journey together.

P.S. The technical stuff

I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology and my Master’s in physical therapy from the Mayo Clinic. I’ve worked as a physical therapist for over 20 years helping people with orthopedic and neurological injuries. I’m a Master Reiki practitioner and love mixing traditional medicine with a holistic approach to achieve optimal incredible results. I'm also a certified movement performance coach and Pn Level 1 Nutrition Certified Coach.

I’ve received additional training to work with horses and am a Certified Equine Rehabilitation Practitioner from the University of Tennessee and a Permitted Equine Therapist for FEI competitions.

Intrepid Wellness was inspired by my horse named Intrepid. This horse was my partner and for 10 years, we had a great run together. "Trep" taught me so much about horsemanship, riding, loving, and being true. He inspired me to take a risk, start Intrepid Wellness and pursue living a passionate life. Trep was my horse, and I was his person. What an amazing gift I was given!

To my magnificent friend. I will love you and be grateful, for always.
